In November 2022, I got accepted via the European Solidarity Corps to work for the organization Arci Catania. It was my first time travelling abroad. Before I arrived I was excited and nervous about this mysterious city and my new life here.

I arrived at the airport expecting to see some familiar faces, but everyone seemed a stranger in this new experience. Until I met my new Colleagues from Arci at the entrance of the airport. They were so nice from the start. We got in the car and they took me to the apartment which I would be sharing with my roommates Alisa and Marit. After I unpacked, I wanted to explore the city. My wish was granted soon as they showed me around the city and taught me everything I needed to know about Catania. They were extremely helpful. Later that day I got to meet with the other amazing team members of Arci.

As this is my first work experience in an organization like Arci Catania, I didn’t know what to expect. I was a little afraid the work would be one-sided and not challenging enough. But luckily, the opposite is true.

Above all, everyone at Arci Catania is extremely nice to me. My co-workers are like family to me. Overall my first impression of Arci Catania is amazing and, as I am writing this after a couple of weeks in this organization, I can state that this good feeling about Arci hasn’t changed yet.
